Winter holidays: 50% discount on Easy Discount Calculator for Nokia N9 and Symbian phones

For those too busy to read the whole post: from now and until the end of winter you can get Easy Discount Calculator for Symbian and Nokia N9 for 50% cheaper (1 euro in most of the countries) from Nokia Store at http://store.ovi.com/content/186742

I am a big fan of small utilities tuned for the very concrete purpose. And I don’t enjoy messing with the lots of discount calculations. You know, when one headset for my phone was 49 euro and now it it is 33% cheaper, but then there is the other one that used to be 69 euro and now it is 40% cheaper. How much do they actually cost?

Simple, elegant, slick, fast!

That was exactly the reason a group of friends (Artem Marchenko, Jarmo Parkkinen, Tuukka Lindoos and Ekaterina Kuts) decided to solve and created Easy Discount Calculator, the first ever real app that runs on Symbian devices, MeeGo Harmattan devices (Nokia N9) and Android devices from the same source code. OK, Android support was a bit of an experiment, so on some phones it works flawlessly, on others it doesn’t, so we offer it for free.

Top ranked and top rated after a couple of months in sales

Top seller position

From the sales start in September, this Discount Calculator was steadily climbing up the best seller list and is right now is the top rated and second top seller business app for Nokia N9 and just below the top page of Symbian business apps top seller list. So we figured if people like the clean UX and find the app useful, why don’t we give it out cheaper for after-Christmas sales and maybe we manage to climb to the very top seller position for the business apps.

Winter discounts! Get it for just one euro or even cheaper

So from now and until the end of February 2012, Easy Discount Calculator is available for the cheapest possible price for Symbian phones and Nokia N9! That is 50% reduction of what it used to cost. Exact price is determined by Nokia store, I believe for most of the European and American countries it should be around 1 euro or 1 dollar.

You can get the Symbian and N9 versions from Nokia Store at http://store.ovi.com/content/186742 and Android beta is available for free at http://bit.ly/discountcalculator

Will Google Build an Uber Android?

The initial response to Google’s surprise announcement on Monday that it had inked a deal to acquire Motorola Mobility for US$12.5 billion was that it was a move largely to protect itself from the increasing patent attacks against Android. That could be why all five major manufacturers of Android devices appear to be thrilled with the deal. Should they be?

The Future of Android, Part 1: The Legal Squeeze

To say Android’s popular among consumers is like saying Godzilla’s a lizard. It’s a question of degree. More than 500,000 new Android devices were being activated daily, and the number was growing at 4.4 percent week over week, Google’s Andy Rubin tweeted in late June. comScore’s figures show that for the three-month period ending in May, Android was the leading mobile platform in the United States.

Android Apps and the Honeycomb Holdup

Android Honeycomb tablets are now on store shelves and vendor websites. Six months from Honeycomb’s release, tablet makers have finally optimized their hardware to fit the new made-for-tablets OS version to their larger-than-smartphone screens. But where are the apps?

Android Pulls In 500,000 Pairs of Eyeballs Every Day

Each day, more than half a million Android devices fire up. That’s the word from Andy Rubin, Google’s VP of engineering. In a Twitter post Monday, Rubin also noted the number of Android daily activations is growing 4.4 percent week over week. It was only two months ago that Google touted daily activations at 400,000.

Androids Dream of Electric Malware, Wake Up in Cold Sweat

Google has reportedly pulled several Android mobile applications that were lousy with malware from its official Android Market. This follows a report earlier this week from Lookout Mobile Security, which claimed it found dozens of apps in the market that contained malicious code.

Study: Android App Peddlers Struggle to Close the Deal

Google’s Android Market may be rapidly catching up to Apple’s App Store in terms of sheer quantity, but app sales still vary greatly between the two, according to an analysis released on Friday by Distimo. The numbers give Apple a clear advantage in sales of applications. The report found that in March and April of this year, six paid iPhone applications generated 500,000-plus downloads in the United States.

Are Android Tablets Stumbling Out of the Gate?

Based on initial sales reports and some tablet market flip flops, the few Android tablets that have hit the shelves so far seem to have crashed and burned. Early sales figures indicate that no Android tab is coming close to being the much-awaited Apple iPad alternative. But will time heal all? Does the Android tablet just need the same growing time that consumers gave the iPad?

Is Android Really the ‘Open’ Platform?

Much has been claimed by Google ever since the infant days of its Android mobile operating system. The claim it has seemed to champion the most is that its platform is open by nature. One of the biggest complaints about iOS has been Apple’s lockdown policy, so naturally, Google would want to make its platform’s openness a main selling point.
